What Is the Difference Between Woven Labels and Printed Labels?

Clothing trademarks commonly come in two types: woven labels and printed labels. These are frequently seen on garments and serve as branding elements. Each type has distinct characteristics. Let's explore the differences between woven labels and printed labels.

 Printed Care Label

Woven Labels

Woven labels use yarns to create patterns. Since the weaving process differs from flat surface printing, there might be slight variations from the original design. Typically, a sample is produced for customer approval before mass production.

Woven labels can be categorized into woven-edge and heat-cut types:

- Woven-edge labels: These are woven directly to the required width, eliminating the need for cutting. This method prevents fraying and retains a soft, structured feel. However, production efficiency is lower. Woven-edge labels are ideal for high-end fashion and formal wear, such as suits and dresses.

- Heat-cut labels: These are produced on a larger fabric piece and then cut into individual labels. They are more cost-effective and have higher production efficiency than woven-edge labels. Additionally, they offer a broader range of color options. Due to these advantages, heat-cut woven labels are more commonly used in the industry.

Printed Labels

Printed labels are produced using various printing techniques, including screen printing, flexographic printing, offset printing, and rotary printing. They are made from roll-fed materials, allowing for double-sided printing and additional processes such as varnishing (or lamination), hot stamping, die cutting, waste removal, and rewinding. These capabilities significantly shorten production cycles, reduce labor and material costs, and improve overall economic efficiency.

Printed labels can be made from a wide variety of materials, such as paper, plastic film, aluminum foil, and self-adhesive paper.

Advantages of Printed Labels:

1. Vivid Colors & High Clarity

- Printed labels use ink-based printing, allowing for rich, vibrant, and high-definition designs, making them visually appealing and fashionable.

2. High Production Efficiency

- Unlike woven labels, which follow a textile-like weaving process, printed labels are produced much faster. Sampling and shipping are quicker, making them an efficient option.
